ICT as Communicative tool

What is communicative tool?

I understood that Communicative tools are systems that allow easy communication between teachers and students or between students outside the physical barrier classroom.

For example; students using e-mail and online chats for messaging the information.

Following are commonly used communicative tools;

Wechat

Messenger

Blog

Email

We also learnt about two types of communications. They are Synchronous and Asynchronous.

1)      Synchronous: Refers two or more people exchange information in real-time and users must be simultaneously connected, rather like telephone call. Examples; chat, telephone call, videoconferencing, etc...

The advantages of Synchronous are; it enables real-time communication, can be use for instructional activities that require higher degree of interaction and helps in solving urgent problems or issues.There are difficulties as well. They are; multiple threads of discussion are difficult to follow, slow connections distracts and fails to keep abreast of interest, discussion lose focus because of many side discussions and difficult to make quick comments by slow computer users.

2)      Asynchronous: Refers to the exchange of data between two or more parties without the requirement for all the recipients to respond immediately. In this type of communication, people communicating do not need to log on the internet at the same time. Examples; e-mail, we chat, blog, wiki, etc…

The advantages of this communication that I have learnt are; appropriate for activities that require more time in thinking before responding. The difficulties of using these communications are; discussion boards/blogs/vle posts fail to maintain the interest (minimizes frequency), checking the discussion board/vle/blogs for posts is an additional task and asynchronous nature discourages learners’ participation.

Though I have been using different types of communication till now, I didn't realize that these communications can be categorized in these two types. After going through these two types of communication, now I am sure that I can use types of communication according to the situation by keeping advantages and disadvantages in mind.

  2. Kingzang, you have innovatively reflected what you have learned on the topic ICT as Informative tool. You had mentioned how to find authentic and reliable sources to find information from the internet. This teaches me that I should also keep in a mind about charactrisitics of reliable information whenever I retrieve it from the internet. Moreover, you mentioned how you have collected information on 'Hitler's sexuality'that remind readers that whatever information given on the internet is not all the time accurate and what we need is to examine and analyse before we transcript. Overall, you had reflected yours learning explicitly. I enjoy reading your post. Keep writing!
